What is the Old Mutual Renewable Energy Fund?

The Old Mutual Renewable Energy Fund is a fund that has been created to invest into renewable energy initiatives that can generate long term sustainable returns. The Fund targets to invest in unlisted energy companies or investment entities engaged in alternative energy and energy technologies in Zimbabwe.
How does it work?

The fund will invest in Renewable Energy (RE) related projects/initiatives for the achievement of the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Zimbabwe:

  • SDG 5: Gender Equality
  • SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
  • SDG 13: Climate Action
  • SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
Who can apply?

Interested developers/innovators and operators whose projects demonstrate financial and technical feasibility that incorporates environmental and social sustainability are eligible to apply. The Old Mutual Renewable Energy Fund will consider applications from companies or projects which fall under the following categories: 

  • Solar - Projects that generate electricity from solar photovoltaic (PV) panels.
  • Hydro - Projects that generate electricity from water sources.
  • Biomass - Projects that generate electricity from biomass, such as wood, agricultural waste, or municipal waste.
  • Renewable Energy Mini-grids.
  • E-mobility
  • Other - Projects that use other renewable energy technologies.
